We have several machines in the immediate family, although I've been tempted to the dark side of Apple products a few times, this just is not practical for me (us). All the machines are running some flavor of XP, except my laptop which is the newest machine (just over a year old), which is running Vista. I haven't had many problems with Vista, and although I don't remember how you can disable all or most of those annoying security warnings that you get every 30 seconds. Eventually, you'll have to migrate to Vista anyway, as MS will not be supporting XP much longer, and I imagine as new app's come out, they will be designed for Vista and may not work under XP. As far your problem with the mouse, the most common problem with this on laptops with touch pads is dirt. Usually a good cleaning with compressed air will fix it. But, this should not be the case on a new machine. I have also had some weird behavior on my Vista laptop, and fooling around with some of the settings in the control panel seemed to take care of it. It was all trial and error but that took care of it for me. As for a conventional mouse doing this, I've had some mice fail, sometimes it's dirt, and if updated the drivers prior to the problem occurring it could be a setting or two. Aren't computers fun? He was advised to check and load any new drivers. Didn't mention it at the time but I had the same problem with the glide pads on my laptops and traditional mouse on my desktop. Now, another laptop was bought Sunday and its glide pad does the same thing! Yes, I checked to be sure I have the latest drivers and that didn;t seem to matter. Strangest of all was a new laptop doing the same thing! BTW, my new laptop has Vista which I am having trouble liking. I am considering reinstalling Vista to see if that fixes any of the problems I am having or I may install XP and go back to the devil I know. Any comments? Thx!
