Subject: [Ferrari] Weber Choices?!
Okay guys, who has some experience spec-ing out Webers?
I am considering the build (rebuild) of a "sick" motor for the '66 GT350.
I will most likely buy an already built 289 from Cobra Automotive. A friend of
a friend has one for his SVRA supersonic bitch slappin' race car.
It's a cast iron 1960s build date 289 with "stock" heads per vintage spec. CA
builds their engines with some pretty nice hardware...forged everything with a
nutty camshaft. Unfortunately, it runs on some sort of rocket fuel that you can
only pronounce wearing a labcoat.
Approx current specifications (otherwise top secret):
Car-
'66 GT350
2780 lbs with 1/2 tank in full street specification with heater, radio, carpet,
everything!
4 spd Top Loader (1:1 4th)
3.50 final drive ratio
289-292 cu inch (4.7-4.8 liter)
Iron Block
Iron Heads
Solid Lifter Cam
Carb from NASA
Air Filter from Trak Auto
Actual Dyno output 540hp [at] 8500rpm
Redline-9000rpm
I would like to purchase this motor and rebuild it to run on pump gas.
Required Changes-
Lower compression pistons -11.7:1 forged
Less raucous camshaft from 600+ exh lift
T304 long tube headers...unstepped
HPipe to Glasspacks and side exit exhausts (3 inch)
The question...what Webers are going to support this mess? I'd like something
close to 450-70bhp.
48IDAs will flow..but the stacks are tall.
44IDFs will fit but will they flow enough?
I plan to drive this car with no pants on.
Thanks,
LS
