The traditional setup was 4 twin-throat 48IDAs Webers on the 289.  Then on 
the 427 they went with 2- 4bbl Holleys (IIRC) which looked like Niagara 
Falls when all 4 throats opened up.  Vroooom!

Good luck!  You're considering something most of us has thought long and 
hard about!
