Subject: [Ferrari] Cleaning my engine

Hey Gang,

Spent a little time today starting the cleaning of the Mondial QV engine. I
decided to do this BEFORE replacing the injectors so that everything will be
clean when I crack open the FI system.
Here are three pictures taken today. I'll describe the work-done for each.

http://www.aubard.us/Mondial/HPIM1400.JPG In this picture you can see that I
have cleaned the air plenum but it is in need of refinishing. I'll also do
that once everything is clean. I have also cleaned the throttle body, a couple
of the intake runners and the upper left corner of the cam cover. You can see
the dirty bits from the spark plug down. I've also just replaced the hose at
the rear-bank crankcase vent port. I've begun cleaning the big rubber hose
from the airflow meter up to the throttle body. You can see that the upper end
is mostly clean. The rest is dirty. I'm cleaning it with brake cleaner.
Simple Green did nothing. Once everything is clean, I'll put a non-shiny
rubber dressing on the hose(s).

http://www.aubard.us/Mondial/HPIM1398.JPG In this picture you can see the
area that is cleaned and the new hose. In this picture you can also see the
studs and nuts where the intake runners attach. They are a little rusty but
will clean up nicely with a little wire brushing. The rubber distributor cover
has also been cleaned. It too will receive the rubber dressing.

http://www.aubard.us/Mondial/HPIM1399.JPG In this picture you can see the
other side of the engine. I have cleaned the throttle body and the fuel
injection pipes. I have also cleaned the inlet runners but not the studs and
nuts where they attach to the head. However, you can see how nicely the studs
and nuts clean up by observing the attachments for the throttle body-to-plenum.
Those parts have been freshened with a brass cleaning brush, and a steel brush
where light rust was found.

That's all. It was nice to get a little time in the garage. And its fun to
share this tiny bit of progress with friends.

Regards,

Rick
