Hey Dudes and Dudettes!Just rec'd the latest R&T and immediately turned to Peter Egan's column. He has written another excellent article - this time about restoring old cars. As usual I found myself nodding along and thinking, "Yup, I did that, too." as he wrote about the 8 stages of restorations" kind of like the "5 stages of grief" (or ever how many there are).
As it happens, while driving my 911 around yesterday - taking the long way home to burn some more high-test and just enjoy a sunny, mild pre-Spring day when I spotted them. Under tarps in a side yard were 3 familiar shapes - looked like 2 Alfa Romeo Coupes and 1 A-R Duetto boat-tail convertible (like the one in the Graduate). Hmmm... says I, "I wonder if they're for sale?" I seem to have jumped to Step 3 instantly. Then a flash of sanity, "no, wait, I still need to finish my '66 MGB, started looong ago when I stopped driving it in 1990 and still with way too many parts scattered all over the garage, barn and storage building. (Wow! I have way too much stuff if I need all that space!) Plus, I know little to nothing about old Alfa's except what I have read and the test drive in a 75 Coupe a long time ago -which *was* impressive. So, for now I'm safe from returning to the land of insanity where I would have had 3 old, rusty cars towed home not even knowing if they had ever run in this century. Plus, the Alfa's reputation for rusting is very bad - and after battling the rust on my MGB for waaay to long I vowed, "Never again!" Which always reminds me of the James Bond movie of a similar name - evidently which came from a comment by S. Connery that he would never again utter those three words he made famous. "Bond, James Bond." It seems that if enough money is waved under his nose he'll change his mind. I know I'd do a LOT for a multi-million $$ paycheck!
Have a nice day ya'll! Time to visit the garage and *do* something! LarryT Porsche Posters!! AndOil Analysis at youroil.net.
