Re: F1 (More Show than Sport)

Hey Deep, et al.,

I'm on the other side of that see-saw. I watch the races but I don't care
much who wins. :-P I don't actually like sport and I'm not competitive. My
time working in the pits just reinforced for me that the (correct)
interpretation of F1 (now) is that it is a circus, an entertainment show, not a
sport. The teams know that its a show and they put on a good show. We should
recognize that, as Deep and others have stated.

My interest in F1 is in the technology and performance of the cars. And
personally, I liked the cars better when they were aerodynamic styling
exercises. I would like them better if they worked Can-Am style where 'If you
can invent it, you can run it!' Of course, that idea turns into one or two
teams with deep pockets, winning everything - and the circus becomes boring.
Therefore, that's can't happen.

The other point is with regards to drivers. I've met many of them while
working at the US F1 GP. Many of them are primadonnas. Yes, they're
incredibly focused and extremely talented performers, but other than that,
they're just little middle-schooler-size people. :-P

The Minardi end of the garages, or at least that's what I still call them,
is the most fun. The drivers are still trying to prove themselves and the
engineers and mechanics are friendly. The other end of the garages is one
hundred percent business - entertainment business.

Bottom line is; To each his own, I guess.
