I always felt a great way to reduce development costs, is to relax the rules a bit, to allow each manufacture to develop cars in a way that allows them to take advantage of their specific strengths. Ferrari do V12s well, the French are great at turbos, etc. Unless you have crate engines that are sealed, a spec race can be very expensive to get into. Not to compare Nascar to F1, but when everyone is running more or less the same engines, teams will spends crazy money trying to find a small advantage here and there. Build a better water pump in a push rod V8 stocker, and it might gain you a couple HP, but to find that advantage costs as much as designing a pump from scratch. Ok, I'm rambling now. lol. I just know one thing, someone posted a few video links the other day to races from the early 80s! Brought back memories of why I used to rearrange my sched to never miss one. Todays races put me to sleep. I've seen one this year so far, and with the channel flicker in my hand, it was hard to resist the temptation!!
