!!!!!!  DO NOT EVEN THINK OF DRIVING BLACK BEAR Pass to Telluride!!!!

People die there on that pass all the time in 4 WD vehicles. No way a car 
could ever make it. To emphasize
how dangerous this route is, local jeep & 4WD vehicle rental agencies FORBID 
you from driving this route in their Rental Jeeps ,and your rental collision 
Insurance coverage is VOID if you would wreck / die on this route.

When you get there it is easy to see what they're all talking about and why 
jeep rental companies in this part of Colorado absolutely forbid you taking 
their jeeps down this road. The road here is what causes grown men to have 
nightmares. The "steps" are produced by a series of rock shelves that 
cascade downward over a narrow slice of sheer mountain side JUST wide enough 
for a vehicle. The fall-off on the drivers side is not really that far, but 
with the whole valley opening up in front of you, it looks like a million 
feet.
