Hi Dennis,
Sounds like a great trip, we have friends currently doing the same thing
from Orlando to Oregon. Some day I will get a life and get my fanny into
road trip gear again......

I don't know much about the midwest since we usually drive it at night to
avoid the boring scenery.....

Cool Roads
COLORADO - Poudre Canyon(Hwy14 from Ft. Collins to Steamboat) beautiful
curves up the river, followed by great straights across North Park, then up Rabbit Ears Pass into Steamboat. bonus - Ft. Collins is home to New Belgium
Brewing CO(Fat Tire Ale), and 3 other excellent micro-brews.
- Black Bear Road out of Telluride over the mountains to Silverton(not
sure if it is Ferrari friendly....)
=================================

!!!!!! DO NOT EVEN THINK OF DRIVING BLACK BEAR Pass to Telluride!!!!

People die there on that pass all the time in 4 WD vehicles. No way a car could ever make it. To emphasize how dangerous this route is, local jeep & 4WD vehicle rental agencies FORBID you from driving this route in their Rental Jeeps ,and your rental collision Insurance coverage is VOID if you would wreck / die on this route.

When you get there it is easy to see what they're all talking about and why jeep rental companies in this part of Colorado absolutely forbid you taking their jeeps down this road. The road here is what causes grown men to have nightmares. The "steps" are produced by a series of rock shelves that cascade downward over a narrow slice of sheer mountain side JUST wide enough for a vehicle. The fall-off on the drivers side is not really that far, but with the whole valley opening up in front of you, it looks like a million feet.

CALIFORNIA - Carmel Valley Road from Carmel to Hwy 101
OREGON - the road from Crater Lake west to Hwy 1, recently resurfaced and
awesome curves following the river

Subject: [Ferrari] Suggestions for cross-country trip

Howdy, all. Will be making a cross-country drive in early August from
Boston to Manhattan then out to Monterey, CA. Should take 5-6 days.
Looking for suggestions/advice on good routes to take. Will be four of us
in a convoy, driving some very cool machinery (details to be announced
later, he said with a grin). Possible stops include Las Vegas, Moab,
Denver, Grand Canyon, Chicago, St Louis, and more.

Basically, want to get as West as fast as possible, as our thinking is that
the more enjoyable parts of the trip would be further west, but open to
ideas. Could take the more northerly route through Chicago and then Denver,
but a more southerly route is also a possibility.

Places to stop/stay, cool car-gatherings, GREAT ROADS, etc., would be
appreciated. (And, if this works out, we'll probably be a rolling
car-gathering/cool thing too.) :-)

Thanks,

--Dennis
