I'm sure they'd make it work to their advantage. Let's say 1% of all drivers
get a speeding ticket in a particular year, which I'm sure is high.

If instead, the government mandates a particular box, of which they get a part
of the fee, now they can tax 100% of the vehicles sold every year. If they then
mandate an annual inspection to make sure the box hasn't been bothered, now
they can tax 100% of ALL vehicles EVERY year.

And, they can still write speeding tickets. Remember, people will figure out
how to defeat these things - they always do. Now when those people are caught,
they not only get a speeding ticket but a huge fine for defeating federally
mandated speed control device.

Some of the small towns might get screwed in this scenerio, but I'm sure at the
Fed and State level they will profit exponentially.

The real issue, thus, is whether Govt. would actually support or mandate such
technology - if you can't 'speed', then they can't issue you a speeding ticket,
can they - say goodby to that source of revenue, Govt.!

The agenda, IMNSHO - is not "hidden"

Oh, and it's not only "proposed" in the UK - it's being tested.

They don't just MONITOR your speed - they push back on the pedal
when you go to exceed the GPS-determined speed limit.
