I don't think so....US Oil Companies would watch their profits Nose-Dive when 
tax-averse people stop driving (not that they already haven't).  Oil Companies 
pay big-money to lobby Congress, and if something comes down the pike to 
potentially limit Gasoline consumption in the US, you bet the Oil Companies 
would kill it.

Good point but I'm sure that FedGovco can increase road or mileage taxes and 
then redistribute the $ to the states, complete with strings attached!

The real issue, thus, is whether Govt. would actually support or mandate such 
technology - if you can't 'speed', then they can't issue you a speeding ticket, 
can they - say goodby to that source of revenue, Govt.!

   The agenda, IMNSHO - is not "hidden"

   Oh, and it's not only "proposed" in the UK - it's being tested.

   They don't just MONITOR your speed - they push back on the pedal
   when you go to exceed the GPS-determined speed limit.
