Years ago, there was a short article on a Speed F1 
race talking about building neck muscles.  

It's all done in the gym using a special helmut, rope 
to a pulley, down to static load of weights applied in
steps.   They use an ungodly amount of weight.  
They had pictures in MS's private gym.  I'm thinking 
up to 400# but whatever it was, it was an absurdly 
high amount.  Tension applied for 20 minutes, 
switching sides periodically.  But favoring the 
direction for right hand turns.

Although MS likely uses his gym often, it's unlikely 
that MS (or anyone) would have kept up this neck 
routine once out of F1.
