Does seem like that, though a busted diaphram is a strange failure mode.
Perhaps the clutch disk spline has stripped. FWIW when I had my TR
transaxle repaired and upgraded I replaced the still functional, but
slightly gritty feeling, throwout bearing. A few bays over was a low
mileage 575 that had seized its throwout bearing and the clutch diaphram
release fingers were major gouged.
