A college student at the school across the street from me snuck one past the
Virginia DMV. He drives a Corvair and has the license tag: "F NADER."

Outstanding. That's one of my most favorite ever! :-)

Hi Doug,
By now you've seen the answers to your question about selling vanity
plates.
A couple of comments: doesn't it seem bizarre that people will pay approx
$600,000 for a license plate? Also, you wrote <<great looking vintage
E-Type Jaguars with a big tag screwed to top of their bonnet nose>>
Gotta disagree with that - while beauty is in the eye of the beholder, this
beholder thinks it spoils the great lines of a E type. I like the rear
plates but the front plates on any car spoil the looks IMHO.

I do like the oval plates used in some European countries - but only on
the
rear. I'd like to see front plate requirements dropped - I wonder how
many
times the front plate is actually used to identify a car/driver? Of
course,
cameras might like them. '-(

Now, maybe I'll go down to the DMV and browse the open letters available - and see if they'll take a few thousand USD for a "good one". I always like
to find ways I can give my government even *more* of my money so they can
continue to take care of me. They've done such a great job so far. Of
course, in the US there's lots of individual ideas about what a good vanity plate would say. Some might like "crak ho" but I wouldn't. It seems the DMV has a lot of control to prevent potentially "offensive" words from us.
(PC at work??) Hopefully the ACLU never discovers it!
;-)

Take care -
