I think the blue horns would sound the closest. I have chrome ones on my
Rodeo and they are harsh sounding, I think

I forgot to mention that the one in the car now looks to be a later
    replacement part.
It is Fiamm air horn... but has three black plastic horns....

Interestly I hunted down on the net a parts sheet for the GTB GTS and the
1976 car has a air horn with two trumpets only pictured.
The GTB GTS sheet (no year but no the injected model) has both a air horn
with two trumpets and what looks like an electric horn also in the parts
sheet... maybe they had different horns for different markets??

I would be happy if I could hit the button and the damn thing would go..
and
go right away... so I might hunt up and nice loud Italian electric horn off
    a Fiat or Alfa...

BUT having said that... if anyone has the 100% correct horn for a 1978
308GTB then I would be interested in buying it.
I am not a originalty nut, but it's nice to have the right stuff in a box
on
a shelf should I ever need it.

In answer to the general electrical answer.. the button works and I can
here
something click in the dash... and the horn turns but only sometimes makes
a
    noise.
Typical that the only current trouble I am having with it is from parts
that
have been replaced and dicked around with!!!

I am from the warmer north of the country in the Bay of Islands.

and yes I should drive it more and I am planning to fix that this summer:)

    Regards
    Gavin

      Gavin,

That would be sacrilege, The system is very simple and you can easily

take the compressor apart with simple tools and clean and re-lubricate
the

      rubber vanes with

light oil! I have a FIAMM metal set on my daily driver exactly same size

as on the ferrari and it sounds harsh the Ferrari horn..... I cannot keep

from using it it sounds so good!!!!!

You got to drive that car more!!!

The Ferrari horn system consists of an electrically-actuated Air

Compressor and a pair of red criss-crossed 'bugles' (on my car, an 84

model). The red metal bugles are worth preserving, since they are no

longer made by FIAMM and provide the characteristic Italian sound. A

friend broke one of his, and had to replace them with the plastic units
-

not sure how close they are in sound to the originals, but with some
care

you shouldn't have to replace the original units.

The air compressor, per the Factory manual, required a periodic dab of

oil - yours may be starved of lubrication. If that doesn't cure the

system, I'd start cleaning electrical contacts, starting with your horn

button on your steering wheel and working one's way to the fuse panel.

If you're still running a 'stock' fuse panel, you probably have a whole

cornucopia of electrical issues - Google 'Birdman's Fuse Blocks' for a

        5-minute, bolt-in replacement.

What horn type make and style did a GTB come with as standard in 1978?

Mine has a set of air horns that don't want to work properly.

They have proven to be a pain..... never working when you need them to

        and

was thinking I might fit an ordinary electric horn....

        Gavin
