You might want to look at few mid size Mercedes and BMWs.  I have found,
they are often a lot more car, for little, if any more money.

Mercedes went through a bad patch with quality, so it's worth joining an
online Benz group to get the lowdown on specific models, and what to look
for.

Lots of the older models are very well built, and very reliable.  Simple
too.  All cars have problems and weaknesses, but if you know what you're
shopping for, and what to look for, you should be able to find a good car
for very little money.

I have an old E with about 350,000 kms on it, which has had very few
problems.  Easy to work on and parks can be found online for cheap.  The
valve guides are starting to go, but hey, 350,000 kms, not bad.

Good luck in your search, and with the 308 rebuild.
