=========================================================
1. Howdy, all! Hope you got to enjoy the beautiful Saturday
weather in New England; nearly 30 of your fellow FCA members certainly
did. Boston area members Gino Evangelista, Chuck Centore, Jon Lal, and Joe
& Maureen Fico met up with me for a fun (and fast!) drive down to Stamford,
where Darry & Paul Bova, CT Chapter President, had done their usual
wonderful job in putting on a memorable event.
We
assembled at Columbus Park, parking over two dozen Ferraris in a row and
stopping traffic. Then the contestants from the
Miss Italia USA Pageant came out,
and started posing for their photographer and videographer next to the cars (and
with eager owners and spectators).
Quotes of the day: Charlie Lenore, upon seeing
the contestants come around the corner in their cocktail dresses: "Dave,
um, where did I park my car? And, uh, what's my name again?" Dave
Friar, upon being asked where wife Fiona was, replied, "Oh, she's home spreading
mulch around the yard." And Jon Lal: "Hey, what happens in Stamford,
stays in Stamford - right?" Andrew Baldassare: "[slack jaw, dead
silence for about 20 seconds]"
Ok, so maybe one or two (or most) of the guys in
attendance were acting like barely-post-pubescent teenage boys. But the
girls were certainly enjoying the day, and loving the short rides that took them
around a few blocks and dropped them off on the red carpet for the
cameras. Other participants included James
Cappola, Michael Sutka, Peter Costello, Peter Lombardo with grandson Austin,
Geoffrey Knapp, Bob LaRosa, Sam Hallowell, Ken West,
Fabio Calia,
Greg Caldararo, Pier Giorgetti, and Lee Rizzuto, among
others. Ferraris included a new California; some 430s, 360s and 355s;
stunning Daytona coupe; Mike's dominating ex-Penske 599 GTB; a triumvirate of
308s, a pair of Maranellos, a 512TR, a 612 Scaglietti and Sam's sweet sounding
365 GTC/4.
After all the excitement, Mike
Raduazzo and Alan Sosnowitz led us on a driving tour through New Canaan and
Pound Ridge, before ending up at the Italian Center of Stamford, where
Paul Bova is also President. The Bovas had arranged for a fantastic
luncheon and arranged for presentations from Chartis Insurance, the Fairfield
Concours, and the legendary Bob Sharp, of Sharp Datsun/Nissan racing and Sharp
Ferrari fame. What a great spring day!
