Re: A reason for a 328

I think the best way to make any car go faster, with with more stick time at the track.  It's amazing how much untapped performance is in most cars, just waiting for the right input to free it.  Secondly, a really good seat will allow the car to be driven faster too.  If you're not comfortable, and properly positioned behind the controls, you'll never get everything the car has to offer.  Other things, like modern tire compounds increase cornering, but again, I'd send the money on #1 first, otherwise, sticky tires are only going to allow you to go off the road and crash at a higher speed.

My personal opinion is to spend the money learning how to drive the car really well.  When you can honestly say, you can drive the car at 10/10s....the cars 10/10s that is, not the drivers, and the car still isn't fast enough for you, then time to move up to a faster model.

While there are some good aftermarket parts out there, very few of the vendors do as good a job as the factory.  And where does it end.  More powerful engine, usually requires attention to the gear box too.  And better brakes should be added to the upgrade list too, if you're going to make the car faster.  To do it "right", you often end up spending more money than just moving up a model, and you are also left with an expensive modified model, that often has less resale value than a nice stock car.

I'm rambling now, but those are a few of my thoughts.  Oh, and one last thing.  Remember, any car is only as strong as the weakest link in the package.  No disrespect to Ferraris, and I've never really tinkered much with them, but they do have a reputation for not having a ton of reserve strength built into many of their components.

I find it difficult to disagree with Bob....I think that most of us will never be more than a one Ferrari family....I think a 328 is a safe cautious bet.....but how do we make it perform like it looks......has any one gone the turbo route.....and does that have to be over the top expensive? If you used a moderate boost I can not believe that you would be over stressing....historically I think that to get an extra 50 hp any other way would cost more than the car warrants.....and will be even more costly when it breaks.
I am waiting for flack and feed back.....or, for ROL to tell us he just did that on his kitchen table with a blow dryer...and the dyno shows 30% increase....and all it cost him was $82.00 and 6 hours of his weekend.
