Hi!
On the nice subject of noisy exhaust, a C R AXTELL megaphone on the end of a short exhaust pipe as run on HD M/C race dirt bikes will peel paint off walls at about 8,000RPM. BMW racers used to cut the stock mufflers apart and fit the megs inside. As I recall the head pipes were about 17/8 inch in diameter? C R was a genius in meg tuning for 4 stroke engines and his creations did wonders for power curves back in the day. Two or four under a car would be awesome!
The funniest noisy story I know happened after a Sunday of gravel pit riding in Alabama near Auburn on a HD XLH stroker with rigid rear end and open completely HD drag pipes. I had riden it for months in town by accelerating slow and shifting conservatively. Sunday I had a cascading parts failure that took out the unit engine/transmission cases. We hid the bike in bushes and came bak Monday to retrieve it with a borrowed van. Approaching the scene, we saw a horde of deputies and troopers. When their day was ruined by not finding the dead riders in the woods, they were going to ticket me for something. One finally noticed the drag pipes and started writing that up. I pointed out the bike was completely off road on private land and could not be started or uun, you could see the crank and trans internals through the shattered cases. That got nowhere and off we went to another episode of Lee County justice, sort of. We got even by
road testing Benelli 250 GP bikes destined for Daytona and a BSA 500cc Goldstar road racer on the nearby state freeway......................well enjoy the weekend folks!
Best Regards
Dale
