Ah but here is the thing...

If you truly loved her, you wouldn't care if she wasn't all original...  You'd be keeping her forever so what does it matter if some bits make her lose "resale" value when you won't be selling her?

It sounds like keeping it all original is a great idea for holding the car's value, but clearly there is a lack of commitment in doing that :)

If I were to have a 328...  (can't do it though, too many hours watching Magnum PI as a kid prevent me from not hearing the show's theme song every time I see a 308 or 328...)  Tubi exhaust (or similar), better tires, better brake pads, and god anything to make the car actually go a bit faster :)  I have said this before and I will say it again...  Very little good came from the 1980's (OK the 2nd Star Wars movie was decent)...    Emissions control went in in the mid 70's and was in full effect by 1980...  Making most all cars suck.  This may be why most cars that predate about 1975 are worth so much more than what comes later...   Of course I was just a lil tyke back then, but I definitely recall my parent's 76 Stingray, and 79 Trans AM as being nothing close to the 71 Nova my Dad used to have...

Personally I don't understand why you would want to modify a 328 at all. Changing it changes the car and it is no longer a 328. If you want something faster or more reliable than buy a different car, or build a kit car. I want my cars in period. At the local FOC meeting at a local pub here in Telford Thursday one guy brought his Daytona. Lots of cars are faster and nicer to drive than a Daytona but to him its the car he wanted (he has owned it since 1983).

In terms of parts always being available for 328's they aren't over here. Try to get a front fog lamp. Or a fuse box. Or almost any body panel (maybe you can get used bits from scap cars but insurance companies over here wont fit used parts to insurance repairs so you can't get them)

In 2001 almost everything was available. For my 400i in 2004 everything was available until I stripped the marenello warehouse of the last factory bits for use on my car! Parts are disappearing for 328s. Need an ECU? Forget it,. Of course you may be able to use modern bits and re-engineer things but then the car isn't original. Then it isn't a Ferrari, its a kit car. Over here in the UK non original parts would DESTROY the resale value of the car. I wouldn't buy anything that wasn't 100% as it left the factory. Not everybody feels this way of course but I bet more people do than would admit....or maybe it an American thing to modify so much....

Lastly on 328 values, a really really nice 88-89 328GTS here will fetch about 35k so close to the 45-50k mark of Phils car. If I could move back to the states tomorrow and the car was a very very good car I would pay 50k no problem. For the right car who wants to mess around for a few thousand?

I currently have an 89 328 in my shop doing performance upgrades to it.

Electromotive Tec GT system, and am rebuilding the fuel system on the car,
changing everything over to a larger throttle body with electronic fuel
injection. After all is done we estimate to increase HP by 25%
It does away with the garbage mechanical fuel injection system also going to
direct fire ignition. Much more reliable and cheaper to maintain overall.

These are cool and "kosher" upgrades that should be done on all older fuel injected Ferraris.
