Be happy to host you guys in Chicago next week but the family and I will be out of town all week....

Have a safe drive home, and let us know how you appease the wife :)  This tends to be more valuable information than how fast the car is...

I am sure that all of us on the list are not only just a tad jealous but wish you a safe (and quick) trip home. Hope you do not get too many bugs in your teeth.

Should be wicked fun on a track, but terrifying surrounded by SUV's on the
highway :)  Will you drive it back and leave it unregistered as a track only
vehicle?

Definitely a toy car of the 1st order... I was kinda hoping it was an Ascari
or Pagani to be honest.  Some of us will be lucky to get a nice tie for
Father's day :)  Honestly I am hoping for an iPad :)

You need to make the cross country video (helmets not allowed)...

2)    It's NOT a Ferrari.

Speaking of track cars, I actually just committed to buying a track
car
today.

Steve Cook and I will be flying into Toronto on Monday June 21st to
pick
it
up, and drive it back to Seattle.

Any guesses as to what it is? J (if you're one of the few who already
knows,
no fair giving it away - let's see some guesses first).

IMHO part of the point is to explore the limits.

And, all other things being equal, less is more as far as traction
control,
etc. (but ABS would be fine, thank you), so that, in p-car land,
there's
more appeal to a GT3 than a turbo, for example.

Considering the GTO project AND the 599 XX programs, I'd say we're
all
grossly underestimating the handling characteristics of this car:

http://www.ferrari.com/English/News/GT/Pages/100423_CAR_ferrari_599XX_record

_nurburgring.aspx

I'm of the opinion that Ferrari actually made some 'adjustments'
after
they
concluded the 550/575 production - those cars sucked on the track,
and
owners weren't shy about saying so at the time.  I agree that the
HorsePower
war is still going strong, and machines are being designed/built/
sold to
the
general public that most of their owners cannot possibly utilize to
anywhere
near their full potential, safely, on our streets or on most race-
tracks.
So what?  I would love to track a 599 - the car's capabilities far-
exceeds
my driving ability to find, let alone explore, the car's traction or
cornering limits, so I would expect that it would be extremely
difficult
for
a driver like me to 'get into trouble' and bend something
expensive.  But
that's just how my mind works.

I'm very interested in what you think would be the best ones for
track
use?
I know that there are several listers, and of course other owners,
who
have
tracked their 512TRs, but that has little or no appeal for me (except
insofar as I could hear the engine wail at some place like the
Glen.)  My
track car (and daily driver) is a 993, which I think is just right
for me,
but I've been curious about red alternatives.

My guess is 3 series all the way....

And even if most can swing a 360 or 430 , they might be hesitant to
track
it
I think. A shame, but totally understandable.

308 gt/4 would be cheap and fun....my pick. IMy next step up would
be 348.
