Hi Clyde,
i agree. Back in the !970s a couple on new Federal agents were going to pick up a felon in Dallas on a parole issue. It was known to all what was happening. As per SOP
they requested a Dallas PD officer to go along. The guy was drinking in a bar at about 11am. Bad sign if you think about it. Expecting no resistance< the Feds walked up a flashed their IDs Before they could say "Hi!" he started shooting. Fortunately not too accurately. The agents froze in their first negative street situation that went seriously off scenario. The middleaged Dallas PD officer fired the classic 3 round burst into the center of mass and game over. Of course he had "been there and done that before". That helps.
Back in that same era there was an officer who walked a night shift foot beat in a minority neighborhood bar area. Similar to Billy The KId he had 21 justified shootings with all casualties applied to the other side. Naturally his daily encounters were interesting. Rookies who walked with him a month could go anywhere.
Natural human caution or fear is a serious issue in a fight of any kind but is a natural human emotion. Everyone should think very carefully if they are willing to risk life and limb to save property or replaaceable things? Flight is often the best choice in the overall view no matter what "stuff" is at risk. Sometimes the situation doesn't offer that option..
Ever criminal no matter age or gender should be considered armed and dangerous and quite possibly deranged, intoxicated with alcohol or controlled substances,
a sociopath minimally, and quite willing to hurt or kill you and your family or friends.
I lost a good friend and Deputy Sherrif when he responded to a bank robbery alarm and met the known perp backing out a side door with a hostage. My friend had the drop on him from behind and had the hammer back ready on his pistol. Unfortunately he had arrested the guy several times before and never had resistance on minor beefs. He expected the same but the perp turned and shot him in the chest, causing a fatal wound. Unfortunately the perp survived a aist level shotgun hit from another officer nearby and was taken alive. At the state prison farm he got to stand on the dead line where tower guards automatically shoot to kill all day every day. Unfortunately he didn't run and got out a few years later, vanishing a few days after returning to the scene of his crime. Even the amount of loot doesn't predict how perp's will react. I saw video of a DIAMOND SHAMROCK incident whre a clerk was killed for one package of HOSTESS TWINKIES. The low record was between 2 and 5 cents
on robbery/homicides in San Antonio. I guess the point of my ramblings is that the decision to flee or defend needs to be seriously made ahead of time.
          Well lets talk about cars!
A more cheerful and fun subject!
           Ciao!
           Dale

Dale as a purple heart owner bottom line is (and I say owner rather than winner because getting wounded doesn't make me feel like a winner)
Is that if you are not mentally prepared to die then go defensive and run an call for help
Each one of is has to make that call well before the time happens
I can speak from experience when I say that carrying a weapon and using it when you need too are too totally different things
Direct fire combat is a bitch and don't let anyone tell you different!
Being fully mentally  prepared to engage the enemy is the key to a sucessful engagement regardless of the environment since most likely unless it is in your home you will have no chance to choose this as well!
Good Hunting!

Clyde
