When I decided to start carrying I went through those mental quandaries before I made my decision. The knowledge that once fired the bullet will go do its damage and cannot be brought back and no amount of "I'm sorry" will help.
But, IMHO people should be prepared to defend themselves. Paying someone else to do something I'm not prepared to do doesn't seem right. By the same logic, I don't feel there's anything I own that is worth dying or killing for. Also, there's no such thing as "shooting to wound" - it just won't happen. Shooting paper isn't the same as shooting a person, but if my family or myself is in danger I plan to do all I can.
People must also decide that when fighting for one's life, there are no rules, except for winning.

Dale as a purple heart owner bottom line is (and I say owner rather than winner because getting wounded doesn't make me feel like a winner) Is that if you are not mentally prepared to die then go defensive and run an call for helpEach one of is has to make that call well before the time happensI can speak from experience when I say that carrying a weapon and using it when you need too are too totally different thingsDirect fire combat is a bitch and don't let anyone tell you different!Being fully mentally prepared to engage the enemy is the key to a sucessful engagement regardless of the environment since most likely unless it is in your home you will have no chance to choose this as well!Good Hunting!
