Hard drives are either dead or dying.
Games: I was a PC gamer for years then Microsoft
made it more difficult to run games that used open gl so I bought XBOX,
then 360, PS3 except for running most XBOX games on the 360 (what else
would you expect from Microsoft) thae game consoles are way ahead of the PC
unless you enjoy shelling out your money for video cards that cost more than
a 360 and or PS3 plus updating drivers. Of course I am 66 and when I want
to play a game, I want to play it now not after I have to hunt down NEW
or OLD drivers (because I installed new drivers and the old game does not
like them or your new digital joy stick or wheel won't work with your old game
because it want analog not digital data.
I have a friend that is/was a system
programmer (mainframe) and he swears by MAC's.
Before you shoot me I have had my share of Apple
computers ( was even presidnt of the local Apple II club.)
And yes I dropped Apple because it stopped
being open, and now I play game on a 360/PS3 because in the gaming
world
PC are to open.

No kidding on the mac, though I probably will save the
hugs for my wife and kids :)
I seldom have pains with computers, but
after a while I will see a crashed drive (this has happened to me 4-5 times
now) even a raid crashed out on me in pairs one time :)
My Mac book
Pro... Its drive gave up the ghost about 3 months ago. Panic, this
was my work laptop and I had a seminar to give in 1 week! I bought a new
drive. Put it in. Reinstalled OSX, and it asked me if I wanted to
restore my settings (it saw my time machine backup drive). I said
yes. It said 3 hours. I came back in 3 hours.
Everything. Every setting, every email, document, icon on the
dock/desktop, wireless networks it knew. Everything was back as if
nothing had happened. Took about 4 hours to fix it. 5 if you count
the trip to best buy.
Often I view the every 2 year HD crash as a
reason to upgrade the whole box but for the family (especially the wife) and
mission critical... Mac all the way. Definitely the way to go for easy
and painless user experience. You want to play games though? Get a
PC or boot camp a Mac.

they do............
I know I sound like a broken record buy anyone here with computer
probelms should seriously consider a mac. I am no expert but use a pc and
sun at work and when I get home everynight i hug my 27" quad coe imac, no
viruses, no spyware, no probelms, no crashes, automatic backups mean no lost
data. I could go on.....

last night though :) I love a car you can jack up on one corner and
get 3 wheels in the air (with the targa roof removed)! Have fun

Agree - the article makes a weak attempt to tie youth
driver-ed/apathy to the decline of the clutch pedal. That link
isn't there, sorry. There are LOTS of other factors going-on
to discuss why only 30% of 16 year olds have a DL. Anyone
price auto insurance lately for a 16 year old? Or the average
car price has climbed to well-north of $23K? Or highway
fatality statistics regarding deaths in that age group? Or the
economy/jobs situation?
The basic premise I agree with, however. The manual is in
decline - we'll all be driving paddle-shifters in the future, but
they DO help you get around the racetrack faster.
Drivers/Customers will have to decide which is more important - a
clutch pedal, or shifts that happen in microseconds.

OK I am all for this clearly, but when
I read the article suggesting 30% of 16 year olds are getting
their licenses and the rest think driving is lame...
Not sure what to make of that? On the one hand I am
happy there will be fewer drivers out there crowding the roads, on
the other hand these kids will eventually be living in Mom and
Dad's basement since they lack the mobility, on the other hand
they will eventually learn to drive much later in life, so even
less experienced drivers, on the other hand if they did that, then
they likely would not go through "driver's ed" and would have
gotten a real instructor and lessons, making them overall better
drivers... But really how dare Ferrari... When I
think about it really. This is a company that used to make
sports cars, now they make very fast cars for old men who can't
shift or parallel park. They have become the gold chain
standard with this move to elecro-fit every vehicle such that all
you need to do to go fast is mash the pedal and steer... I
read something like 6% of lamborghini's being sold last year had a
manual also... If I wanted that I'd use my PS3 controller
and lean in my chair a lot. What a sad testament to driving
overall. Sad sad sad. I was at Lake Forest Sports
cars this week for a car club meeting. They had a lot of
very pretty cars, including an SLR and an MC12. The only new
cars there that you could row your own in were the
Lotus's... AM's? nope, Maserati's? nope,
Ferrari's? nope, not a one had 3 pedals on the floor.
Not one. If you wanted that, you would have to purchase a
used vehicle. And they had 4 new Scuderia's on the floor,
gray, white, black and red... The nicest F car they
had was an older 512 TR, that thing was beautiful, and they had a
246 Dino also that was very
nice. BR, Mike George York wrote:
