IIRC, the Pantera had a large problem with Rust from the earliest production.  Perhaps that was improved as production continued.....

I haven't seen one in years now, but the impression I came away with was, crude, crude, crude.  Then again, no worse than a lot of stuff at that time.  Exotic, well the ZF trans was nice.  Handbuilt, yeah, no one would ever question that.  ;-)

Last time I saw a Pantera, was on the highway.  It was a later model, when I believe they were adding wings and fender extensions, a la countach.  (GTS ?)  The driver was right into it, sporting driving gloves with cutout knuckles and all.  He seemed like a pretty happy camper, and that's what it's all about I guess.

It was pretty much a Pantera to the world.  Some liked the way de Tomaso rolled off the tongue, and thought it added a bit of class to the car.  Kinda like calling a bottle of table wine by the grape it's made from.  Sounds a bit classy, but it's still a bottle of table wine. hee hee.
