No start problems of this nature begs a check valve check (located on the end of the fuel pump usually) replacement or accumulator (does this CIS have one?).

Seems the system is bleeding down.  Since, for safety reasons, the fuel pump will not normally continue to run if a certain number of rpm isn't met within a few seconds, the pump shuts off.  Ergo - many crank starts.  Just recycling the key every three seconds MAY, just MAY, obviate the crank crank crank.

All my manuals are at the new house so these are just WAG's.

Onward, and keep us posted.

Subject: [Ferrari] 328 reluctant dead cold start

Hi collective wisdom of all,

When my 328 motor has not been run for (say) a week or more, it needs to be cranked and cranked and cranked for ages before it will even begin to splutter. I crank it for about 10 seconds - nothing; I crack it again for about 10 second - again, nothing; I crank it again and maybe this time I get a slight cough; I crank it again and this time maybe I am lucky and it will splutter into reluctant life and after about 30 seconds it settles right down and is running like a bird and I have no more problems.  If I then try to start the car within (say) the next few days, it jumps straight into happy life with enthusiasm. But if I leave it for over a week or so, we are back to square one!  Anybody had such issues and what should I look for?

Cheers,

Grahame
