I believe the true moral of the story is Caveat Emptor.

Anyone can buy a dyno (it only takes money or credit).

Anyone can say they are a "tuner".

In fact, they are far and few between.

A decent dyno operator would have seen that motor failing before it
CATO'ed and
pulled his foot out of the skinny pedal.

A decent calibrator wouldn't have had it happen in the first place.

Yes, calibrator.

To quote my good friend Greg Banish - author and the calibrator for MPG
on the Volt...

There are two types, Jim: "car tooners" and vehicle calibrators. We're
the 2nd.

I'd say I know less than two dozen people in this WORLD I'd let touch
any car I owned
if it wasn't me tuning it. This is in the aftermarket - not OEM
calibrators, of course.

Emissions-illegal, fly-by-nite assmunches now are prevalent in the
entire industry.

If you've seen some of my comments on FChat or any of the BMW lists,
you'd understand.

(Might be the reason for the incredible level of EPA/CARB "surveillance"
at the moment!)
