Inspires me to get out and get the garage drywalled, and a couple of pictures up.

Thanks Doug.  I remodeled my garage after I started getting into Ferraris.

Here's another shot of the 550.

Geeeese Gary - your garage is cleaner than my living room!
Yeah, and I like the car too.

I bought a 550 in 2008, the same year that I sold my 512BBi.

Some issues are the plenum water hoses, weak motor mounts (replace w/575s) and shock actuators (same as 355s). All of these are easily fixed and most of ones on the market have already been
corrected.

The positives for me: 485HP, 199MPH, 0-60 in 4.2 sec, good brakes and a major service is a lot less $ than pulling out a mid engine. My 550 has been very reliable over the last two years/11K miles that I've driven it.

I like the styling, it reminds me of a modern 275 GTB.

Like cLyDe says, "the maintance is easy and IT HAULS ASS."

No hands on personal experience, but to me, the 550 just seems so much more usable.  Some don't care for the looks of the 550, but I think it was the best looking Ferrari to come along in years, and much better looking than what replaced it.  The 550 is just a big proper GT car to me.  Only thing I've heard to watch for, is the cooling hose that runs between the two cylinder banks, under the plenum ??  I'm sure the better informed can point out other weaknesses and things to watch for.

In a recent survey, the TR still rates as one of the top most desirable sports cars on peoples wish list.

Guys,

All the discussion about the 512TR begs the question. How does the 550 compare?

Asking prices seem to be very close for both cars.

I'm aware they're very different cars ( styling, engine placement etc.) however for about the same money you can have your choice!

I like the interior of the 550 despite the 512TR's interior being a giant leap over the earlier series TR's, but I have a little trouble with the 550's styling.

I'm with FG on the 512TR possibly being my favorite Ferrari however I'd like to hear the arguement for the 550... if there is one. :)

  Thanks   Ken
