Well, it wasn't hard for me :

I didn't have a rap sheet anywhere - if you've never been arrested, FOR ANYTHING, there's really nothing for anyone to review.

I didn't marry someone from a Ukranian 'Modelling' Catalog (bummer).

I don't vacation in Cuba or Pakistan.  In fact, I never left the country unless on official business.

I never dabbled in 'recreational pharmaceuticals' or abused alcohol to the point of ever making an ass out of myself.

I didn't have any 'foreign' friends, and wasn't much of a 'club joiner', especially anything political.

I never spent more money than I had to the point of credit-score people taking notice.

In short, other than filling out the forms and waiting six months, it was EASY.  Bear in mind, the wait is LONG and the costs associated with the processing and the investigations are EXPENSIVE.  This isn't the sort of thing you want done for a guy who drives a catering-truck or loads suitcases into the belly of an airplane.  You do it for people who safeguard specific types of information that Uncle Sam considers highly-important stuff.  If the Airlines had to screen their people the way the DoD does, modern air travel would come to a stand-still.

People who have rather-devout religious beliefs - practicing Muslims, Mormons, Pentacostals, etc. also breeze-through the process.  They're as boring as I am.
