Pininfarina and Bovet merge tech and sport into a watch![]() The Chronograph Cambiano Edition 2011 timepiece is the latest team effort from Italian design firm Pininfarina and Swiss watchmaker Bovet.
Italian design firm Pininfarina and Swiss watchmaker Bovet have teamed up again, this time spawning the Chronograph Cambiano Edition 2011 timepiece. Their last effort, not yet a year old, was the Tourbillon Ottanta, marking Pininfarina's 80th anniversary. The Italian car-design company is known for its work with high-end automakers such as Ferrari, Maserati, Rolls-Royce and Jaguar. Translate the sharp angles and technical complexity of those cars into a watch, and you've got the new Cambiano. The timepiece's sporty yet complex fascia sits amid contrasting finishes. The steel band and case back have a circular satin finish, while the bezel, support bow and crown are in ball-milled steel with black diamond-like-carbon coating. Chronograph functions are displayed along the horizontal axis, with the minute counter at 9 and the hour counter at 3. Time indications are set along the vertical axis, with seconds at 6 and the date at 12. The chronograph hands are blue and are offset from the rhodium-plated hands that show time. The push pieces of the chronograph, shaped like accelerators, are symmetrically arranged at 11 and 1, following Bovet tradition. The convertible case allows the timepiece to be changed from a wristwatch to a pocket watch, a sports counter or a miniature clock. |
