Being able to cut out of belts, etc in fires can be critical. Several years ago a relative by a then marriage borrowed a new Cessna 172 to fly 4 persons including himself to a ranch in the Sierra Madres of Coahuila, Mexico. A crash resulted caused debatibly by pilot error and/or sabotage. The families of the decedent and the aircraft lender had mixed histories and tangled financial dealings. On the other hand he bought his pilot license in Mexico but had accumulated hundreds of hours of flight time in mountains. He lived long enough after impact to get out a SWISS ARMY knife but could not cut loose his seatbelt. The heat left his fingerprint impression in the knife scale or sidepiece. Not a good way to go!
Something to cut belts and something to break glass are both good ideas I think
Just my thoughts
