You might have some luck taking that side's cheese grater off?  If memory serves it is held on by 2 to 4 screws with hex or torx heads...

I was having trouble closing it the other day and so I had to close it, not really "slamming" but repeatedly closing it harder than I normally might, and now it won't open at all.

I can't take the inner door panel off, because the screws to do so are in the jamb and I can't get to that area.  

Any insight and ideas?
