Thanks Doug!

I couldn’t find this when I posted but I knew I had it.  Here is a simple diagram of differences I created for someone in another forum that shows the way most of the cars that used the Bosch Jetronic sensor plate FI worked and the way it was invoked on the Ferrari.  Hope it helps.  (I don’t remember if we can post pics here or not??  If not, send me your email and I’ll pop it out to those who want it).

Essentially with the fuel distributor on the Bosch system you always want to push the plunger UP into the main body to meter fuel for higher loads/RPM.  This drawing just shows the pivot point placements so that no matter what direction air flows though the housing and on to the motor, the plunger is always being pushed up.   I know it’s simplistic but some folks (like me…) just don’t understand until they see a picture

Michael

First, you need to look VERY closely at the pictures and your unit.  They are NOT the same.  Figure 15.1.4 is a traditional setup as used on many VWs.  The pivot point for the air flow arm is behind the point at which the arm contacts the plunger on the distributor.  The variation on our cars has the contact point for the plunger behind the pivot point for the arm… so the pictured version the air flows UP.  On ours, the air flows DOWN.  Hope this helps.

I had mine apart in the last year and sent all the critical stuff to Larry Fletcher for rebuilds.  Pictures here:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/moseley_ferrari/sets/72157622414223889/

....shows how the sensor plate (56 mm by the way) works. But there is something I don't understand even after reading the explanations.

Is the air coming through the air filter supposed to push down on the plate, thus allowing more air as I go faster ? If that is so, then I don't understand the directions of the green arrows on the picture.

I need a SENSOR PLATE FOR DUMMIES type of explanation.
