I read an article about that after the Speed TV conversion - I think it was Car & Driver. What the new owners said was that everyone liked the programming of SpeedVision but there simply wasn't enough of it to fill all the hours. They originally wanted to fill in with additional nascar coverage but they didn't want to be become the nascar channel. That's why they started covering planes, boats, and other speed related stuff.

Hi Yaâll,

I was browsing the available channels on Comcast Cable (I donât subscribe to all of them) and the #âs start at 02 and go all the way to 989 or so.    Lots are duplications â there must be 10 or 20 MLB channels and 10 NBA channels, Hockey, B âBall, etc. â there are a LOT of channels I would not watch even if I did want to spend the money for the packages.    Thereâs some networks that seem to be dedicated to presenting some truly bizarre programming (IMHO).

The thing that I thought odd was in all of those channels there was Speed several times (2 Speed HD for some unknown reason) and several other âextremeâ sport channels but I never saw anything that even remotely looked like the original SpeedVision â which had a lot of programs featuring Porsche and Ferrari â the kind of programming not seen elsewhere.

At the time when SV was bought (gobbled up?) by that âotherâ network, I thought SV must have been doing something right to attract a buyer willing to pay what I thought was a decent price.   And yet not a single other network has stepped up to produce anything resembling the old SV.

Is there a reason why someone would not want to replicate what I believe was a profitable format that Iâm not seeing?

Have a nice week --
