I mount up high, and shoot through the dark tint band. Some say this can have an effect on the range, but I have not had any issues (and I want it as “invisible” to thieves as possible). I hard wire it into my sunroof motor on my BMW. Up high, it is very difficult to see, as I leave it in my BMW permanently. No issues, it has been in the car for 7 years. Parked in a lot of hotel lots, and never been molested…I am parked in a Marriott Residence Inn garage tonight…. I rarely use a radar detector in the F355 spider…no way to secure it without removing it, with the top down…more hassle than I am willing to deal with…I just chose wisely when and where I speed. J From: Doug and Terri Anderson [mailto:dnt [at] dock.net] Hmmmm – so when you mount these gadgets – does it make a difference if its low or high? Gee Dave, I gotta ask these questions – I only drive the speed limits and slow down when external conditions warrant. BUWAAhaahaahahaahahaha DOUG From: David Handa [mailto:dave [at] davehanda.com] While I own and have used V1’s for over 15 years (yes I have upgraded), the new GPS based units look very promising. If I were doing it over again, or needed another one, I would probably buy one of the various versions of the Escort. The GPS greatly reduces the number of false alarms. The sensitivity is much improved from what they produced even a few years ago…they are getting very close to the performance of a V1. The only thing I would miss is the directional arrows of the V1…that is very useful info to have. (I drive several hundred miles per week in my sales job up and down I-5 and around the NW) From: teamwenz [at] yahoo.com [mailto:teamwenz [at] yahoo.com] I own a Escort 9500 ix and only have good things to say about it. It has a GPS component so it remembers marked locations and false alarms. You than purchase a subscription to the online database (nominal fee). Every one else that owns one and subscribes to the database all contribute and the information is collected. When you update the database to the detector you get all of the updates from all over the US. It's great for Speedtraps that have been marked and false alarms that have been logged etc... It also keeps track of multiple alerts with seperate signal strengths for each threat. It is the most advanced unit out. Mentioned in a previous reply they also have a Garmin looking GPS unit with all of the features as well. The Valentine is a good unit as well but not as advanced. It does have directional arrows so you know the direction of the threats and it keeps track of multiple threats as well. Still both are the best on the market. Mike W. It can be updated with new software for a minimal cost. My only problem with the laser is that it will signal with some LED brake lights and some home security products. Sounds like your V1 is exhibiting some signal discrimination errors. It's perhaps ready to go back to Valentine for their "upgrade" (a relatively cheap service to refurbish the unit and update it, which usually results in them simply sending a completely new unit.)
