Gavin;

have you read the new book "Enzo Ferrari's Secret War"  It is heavy on the New Zealand connection forged by Enzo and Pat Hoare during the end of the war. It is very good and alleges that Enzo had a daughter that P. Hoare fell in love with and wanted to marry but "the father" would not let her leave Italy. There is all sorts of stuff I have never heard before and have found it quite interesting. Anyone that loves ferrari's should read as much as they can about the old man as the more you read the more you will be impressed.

Sorry I didn't follow this thread properly but I have something to say
ANYWAY!

For me beating the system is to be able to buy and drive/ride what I
want..... and to do it's sensibly in a way that does not lose too much
money.
I am lucky in that I like older vehicles, so I can get them when they are
cheaper.
I always try to buy quality, never buy just for a profit, and I never
compromise on the model, spec and condition.

I have been lucky over the years that I have made good choices, so I have
"beaten the system" in a way as I have overall made good money on my bikes
and cars... which has allowed me to get BETTER bikes and cars!

Over the years I had friends that bought car after car, put heaps of  time
and money into them and lost on every one.... because they were crap cars in
the first place.  So I went straight for the Ferrari (errrrr.... after a
Lotus that made me realize how much I did want a Ferrari).

No regrets.  I am lucky as for me it's the ultimate car.  1978 308GTB in
red/tan, full euro spec, 16 inch Ferrari wheels.... so me that it the top.
NO other vehicle would make me sell it to raise money.

Ok rambling now.... had a fall two weeks ago so I can't walk or work and I
have to much time and pain killers on my hands at the moment!!!
Can't even lean into the Ferrari's depths to refit the now charged battery
either... bugger it...

Regards
Rambling Gavin
