I was mainly finding my way to making the metaphor joke, but if someone is especially sensitive, there's always filters and multiple email accounts and folders.  

Some just put email filters in place to send all non-essential emails to a separate folder/account/filter/label.  

I send only known addressee emails to my gPhone account, which filters out the noise of my email list habit.
