1981 308 GTSi: What's the use of the solenoid valve (Tav 9 #36 or Tav 12 #52)

328/308 parts manual:
Figure 9 show the emissions air pump system and part #36 controls the cutoff temperature for air blowing into the exhaust, turning it off until the engine warms up. It is controlled by the temp sensor under the water expansion tank (as is the high idle rpm).

Figure 12 describes the EGR system which limits gas vapor leaking into the atmosphere. In the passenger footwell there are catalytic temperature slow-down warning light controls next-to-which is an EGR controller gizmo which turns off power to part #52, the EGR electrovalve, limiting it's operation to engine speeds below 4400rpm.

Both electrovalves get +12v power from the ignition switch at left fuse #1.
Both electrovalves get ground power from their respective controllers.
An electrovalve controls air or vacuum flow electrically.
