If your foot is off the gas, then the car should just be getting enough gas to maintain idle rpm. If the rpm is higher than that (as in throttle being lifted from a higher rpm) then the rpm will stay high for as long as the flywheel momentum can spin the motor, after which it will deteriorate to idle rpm eventually.

(Heck, things seem quite slow anyway.)

Is it generally true, at least with modern manual cars, that with the car in gear, but one's foot off the accelerator pedal, little or no gas will be fed to the engine, even if the RPMs are well above idle?
