That was indeed what I had in mind.  Thanks.  (But I thought the term "coasting" referred to not just having one's foot off the accelerator, but also having the car in neutral.)

I don’t know if I’m missing the point of the question. If you’re talking about when you’re cruising along and take your foot off the accelerator (coasting), then usually in modern cars the fuel is cut off until either you touch the accelerator again or the engine speed drops to just above idle speed.

 

If that’s not what you’re talking about, then I’m confused!

(Heck, things seem quite slow anyway.)

Is it generally true, at least with modern manual cars, that with the car in gear, but one's foot off the accelerator pedal, little or no gas will be fed to the engine, even if the RPMs are well above idle?
