Tell him to forget it. Although 308s are a classic design, the vast majority of them are case-studies in deferred maintenance. A cheap car that has suffered under CHEAP owners - a 308 is not a Bugatti or a Daytona ("just fix it, cost be darned"). We're talking about a car with a book value of less-than $30k, but will require maintenance that makes them an instant money-loser if your friend has any ambitions beyond static lawn-ornament status. Fuel, Oil, air, and coolant system parts are getting scarce, and those that are available are getting STUPID expensive fast. The NLA item-list is getting longer and longer. The day where many of these machines no longer run is coming, and those that do run will be doing-so on non-factory and home-fabricated parts. These are no-longer cars for the 'limited budget' crowd -
anyone who says different should look at my engine rebuild receipts to have their tune changed. I could have bought a 355 for what I have into this car right now....and I'm not the only one in my circle of friends.
Appreciation? Only the Michelotto rally racers and the Fiberglass cars are seeing value up-swings.
