All,

I had a great idea and used some sleeve retainer to keep them in place so they would not fall out. Unfortunately the way they are designed the fit in the bottom off the rubber gaskets which freely move a bit in the air box bottom.
It is hard to explain but it made the airbox impossible to put back on as the carb sleeve bearings have a bit of play on thier studs.  So I had to unseal them....  My friend Peter in BC puts them in upside down so that when he lifts the airbox
off they stay in the rubber gaskets. This makes sense but I still have them on the original way. If you buy new rubber gaskets they are quite tight and should stay in there. The good news is the carbs should be shut so even if one fell in there you
can fish it out with a magnet. The bad news is it can fall anywhere.

What complicates the GT4 maybe the 308 GTB/S also is the airbox has to go down on an angle as you have a breather hose hooked on the bottom. Of course it will go straight down without the hose connected but
it is close to impossible to get the hose on afterwards....

'Coupla questions -
- Where do you recommend we search for the rebuild kits?
- What brand do you recommend if there are many?  I have seen just the kits
that just replace the gaskets to replacement kits containing nearly
everything that can come off the carb.
- Any glue to use on the gaskets or put everything together snug and dry (no
Loctite on the screws?)
- And lastly, in each of the rubber carb to trumpets gaskets there are four
metal clearance spacers with a shoulder that fit over the four carb studs to
prevent collapsing the carb to trumpet gasket.  These look like a T.  Mine
were all pressed into the gasket such that the spacer shoulder touched the
carb top.  Mounted this way, when the air box is jiggled loose and removed
if the spacer sticks to the gasket, for awhile, it can fall out and become
lost - per Murphy's Law of course, in the worst possible places.  Question -
is this the correct mounting of the spacer which is forced because of the
gasket casting which allows room for the shoulder or can the rubber gasket
be flipped over such that the shoulder flat top touches the trumpet, not the
carb, and is thus prevented from dropping out? [Whew]

Nice nice engine compartment.  I'm envious.

Subject: [Ferrari] OT - Webers

Hello Friends,

The Weber rebuilds are completed and reinstalled on my Ferrari V8 engine.
In this implementation, the 40DCNF velocity stacks mount in the airbox.
That is, the airbox is between the carbs and the trumpets.  But of course,
one can't tune the carbs with that honkin' big airbox blocking access, so
the tuning is done without the box in place, THEN  its installed afterward.
In the picture at the end of the link, the trumpets are only sitting in
place as I haven't yet added the retaining nuts - but you can see the REALLY
nice, clean, happy Webers.

The choke linkage is only inter-connected on the front two carbs.  The rear
choke linkage is left off to improve access to one of the linkage ends.
There are screw-in retainers at the end of each link.  One retainer broke
into upon removal, so I am awaiting a replacement.  I'll visit my local
exotic repair shop tomorrow and forage through their 'junk box'.
