Porsche has finally adopted Ferrari's marketing strategy, the best one is the next one. Likewise Ferrari has copied Porsche's charge them for everything approach on options.
My 365 is still fast enough for US streets. I'm happy with what ever rental Porsche Eurocar has when I am in Germany. Still tough to drive the unlimited autobahn stretches with all of the truck traffic.
Your mileage may vary,

I've been shopping for a Carrera GT, but sellers are ambitious and buyers are dumb. Fortunately the imminent Porsche 918 (a gawd awful electric hybrid contraption) is convincing some Carrera GT owners that their seven year old "investment" grade Porsche (which has lost only 25% of its value to date and requires wildly expensive maintenance, and rides on a literally irreplaceable and unrepairable monocoque composite frame) is long in the tooth and should be placed with a million dollar monstrosity of technology uber alles. Perhaps the short term availability of a few cars from weak hands in a weak economy will create the window of opportunity for someone with champagne tastes on a beer budget to enjoy an extraordinary car and just suffer the exorbitant insurance premiums. : )

After all, I would not want to be a member of any club that would take someone like me as a member ... Sure enough the '08 crash (arguably on-going) screwed the pooch for Ferrari and its secondary market price fixing racket. Porsche has fared little better. Which brings me to my point: the only other marque I can mention in the same breath in terms of uninterrupted lineage is, strange as it may seem, the Corvette. It's not really my cup of meat, but I have to say I respect the thing on the track in capable hands. Porsche has gone to the dog house with the 991. I have the 991S, it's not my idea of a 911. I still have the RS 3.8 and that waits out another winter, patiently ready for a January track day. Meanwhile, Ferrari has gone to peculiar design lines to appeal to the avant garde global buyer, and the "sit back, dear driver, and watch this car drive itself" electronics of the 458 Italia leave me cold. What's an analog boy to do in a digital froufrou age?
