I use Sta-bil in the boat because it's laid up near the water (humid atmosphere), otherwise just run the carbs dry.  Using that method my old generator would start on first pull with 3 year old gas.  As long as the gas doesn't destabilize the trick is to make sure the idle jets and float bowls or injectors don't get plugged with gas residue.
