Years ago in racing classes that required DOT legal tires, the trick was to shave them down to a minimum tread thickness. Reduces tread squirm and improves handling. Then the tire companies got into the game and you can buy essentially race compound tires with minimum tread, DOT legal, for racing in those classes. You could technically run them legally on a street car, but wouldn't get many miles out of them.Siping is a different technique and is also being offered on street tires these days. We used to hand groove slicks for our dirt cars and then sipe them with razor blades. Crude but effective.Les Thompson-----Original Message----- From: dale sailors Sent: Apr 14, 2013 9:04 PM To: Les Thompson Cc: The FerrariList Subject: [Ferrari] TIRESHELLO GOOD EVENING MEMBERS DOES ANYONE EVER HAVE TIRES PROFILED OR SKIMMED TO ;ESS THAN STOCK THICKNESS?
