Seven cars registration?  $360?   $*%*(^(*)??

Kalifornia is bound to pay for The Brown Stuff’s bullet train to nowhere with car registration – or so it seems.  We have 30 million cars in Kalifornia and smog check 28,000 cars per day.  Clean air has its price.  Everyone should drive electric cars ‘cause as EVERY congressman knows – electricity comes out of a socket and is free.  BUWahahahaahah

PS – picture an all electric F1 or Indy field.  Closest thing to that were the STP Turbine cars I filmed in the late 60’s.  They would go by - - - with raucous sound of silence – Foooosh.   Ohhhhh, the excitement.  No one over 60 years old was sold a ticket or allowed to watch for fear of grand mal seizers and yellow waxy buildup.

Another reason to live in Alabama, no checks. Just renewed plates for 7 cars, total bill was ~$360...

And as for missing out, I'm looking at a beautiful sunny day at lower manhattan right now, Delta does fly both ways...

Hey Clyde – Kalifornia?  20 year old car exempt from smog check?  BUWHAhahahahahahahaha.  Biennial emissions checks are mandatory in Basic and Enhanced areas for most vehicles starting with MY 1976.

Our old RINO, what’s his name – you know, the actor and weight lifter?  Well he made a deal with his buddies to exchange the 25 year rolling Smog Check cut off for a trick registration of Period Cars.  Period Cars?  Yeah, build a BRAND NEW plastic car that looks like a ’32 Ford or a Cobra that looks like a 1969, be one of the first 500 in line at the DMV to register your car on January 2, 20XX, and bingo – no smog check or referee.  Hey, what a Bus’s for?  Ask his house keeper.

There are, in some remote Kalifornia areas, where you may NEVER have to get a smog check.  These are called Change of Ownership Only.  Buy a brand new whatever, never sell it, and you’ll NEVER need a smog check.  Goes by ZIP.

Look at the 512 TR it’s a 20 year old car and it should be exempt from the emission stuff

And its modern and it works!

Rob, I enjoyed my 365 2+2 and miss it.

Maintenance was straightforward. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as a next purchase.

Dear Friends,

I am seriously thinking about adding a 12 cylinder car to my garage. I have had an almost perfect GT4 for 20 years. I always wanted a 365 GTB4 but with prices beyond my reach I have settled on a range of vehicles I am considering. I will not be able to make the purchase for about 4 to 6 months but want to start looking. I have spent 20 years getting my GT4 perfect and getting to old to do this again, so I am looking for a car with all tools , books, records, history, etc basically a platinum level car or as close to it as i can afford. I have lots of experiences with minor services but want a car that is as close to perfect as can be. I have studied the market prices and would be willing to pay the fair price for the right car. All of these except the 365BB have a top price of 200K or under in Cavallino. I know many think this index is inflated but for a good car I think the top range is about correct. FWIW a 246 sold for 450K last year which is insane.

I have contacted Phil to help me but thought if any of you knows of a car available or coming available to pass it on to me. I talked to other list members who have highly recommended the 365 GT 2+2. I also talked to my Dino's previous owners and he had one also and liked it. He also told me never to sell the GT4 as it was one of his favorite Ferrari's he ever had and wished he had not sold it to me. By the way my Dino turned 38 04-28-13. If I was smart I would retire, travel, remodel but cant afford to retire so if I have to work till I die might as well have 2 horses in the barn! This is a once in a lifetime chance for me so wish me luck. I have never had a bad experience with my GT4 so hoping that my born on the same day Dino Ferrari passed luck prevails! I am partial to red/black or tan with alloy wheels.

The 365 BB would be easiest for me to own as my car has very similar components, and to me this is styling perfection, easy engine access etc.. The only downside is no storage space and need an engine out belt change which would only be hard as I have limited garage space.

I would love a GTC4 as I am a carb junkie and love the sound and extra space, but worried about the complexity of the components. Is it true it needs an engine out to change the water pump? Would love to work on those carbs!!!!

The 365 GT 2+2 has always been a favorite of mine as the styling was taken from the 330 speciale and Superfasts which I adore.  I measured this will just fit in my garage if I move a bunch of Ferrari stuff!

After watching Ferrari's for 40 years I am sure if I wait the right car will come up. I just wanted to give you all the heads up because I feel we all are brothers am hoping if someone knows a car similar to my desires they might point them my way. The car has to be a 1975 or earlier as they are smog exempt in CA. I already have seen a few carb BB I like but they all came after that fateful date, plus I think I need an older car since the GT4 is already kind of like a race car (to me). Conditions on the ground may change but this is my plan, and I am usually know for following through. My only fear is the market will move before I am ready........

I bet you guys cant wait to walk me through fixing those self leveling shocks!  HAAAAAAA

Sincerely,

Rob
