I sympathize with the pain in both the scratches and failed faith in human nature.  I used to take a 90's Porsche to events.  An "old hand" gave me the advice to attend only "enthusiast" events and avoid the "passerby general public" gatherings.  Pick a spot "with your back to a wall" so that anyone seeing the car has to approach from one direction.  Bring guards, be strict.  Friends, placed at "watch posts" and "Please Don't Touch" signs creating an arm's length perimeter.  In this way, the only damage I ever experienced was sticky, morning dew on cut grass in the mornings.

We're two weeks away from Pebble Beach, and I bet there's some billionaires worried about the chances they're going to be taking with their precious machines and the crowds of people pushing past each other with no clear thought or consideration for the importance of these cars far beyond their whopping dollar value.

Beautiful day yesterday so I took out the 328 for a drive.  I always pop the bonnet after a drive to have a look at the engine bay.  I then saw about 5 nasty scratches in the paint, obviously done purposely.

I enjoy attending local community car shows particularly for the pimply faced kids who know and love F'cars as I did as a kid.  Particularly fun when mom or dad pops a photo of the kid behind the wheel.

Sad to say, I'm done with it.  The scratches must have happened at the last show or two while I was inattentive or off somewhere.  This is not an isolated incident for me. I really do enjoy the small local family car shows and talking mindless kar krap with other car smitten souls, but not at the cost of someone taking out their pathetic inadequacies on a car I treasure.

Sorry to say, that's it.  From now on, I'm gonna have more fun at the shows taking my beater and no concerns.

Thoughts?
