I remember back in the early 90's I was reading a magazine piece (Autoweek, I think) about F1 coverage on the then-great-Speedvision. They said that Speedvision determined that they got the same ratings numbers for F1 whether they showed it live or tape delayed at 2 or 3 am. So the Asian races (I think it was just Japan and Australia then) were the only ones broadcast live.
