Or that Amazon.com decides that they can get in the car business.

BMW is playing with getting rid of "salespeople" and moving towards brand specialists who just help with the ordering of the cars via an iPad, there are a lot of people watching this one...

Didn’t you buy yours out of state? The laws don’t affect registering any particular car – just buying it.

The NADA is afraid that if Tesla’s model works, suddenly GM will start thinking that Rick Hendrick (as an example) is making a bunch of money from his dealerships that would fit nicely in the GM corporate pocket instead. So then GM brass says, “Let’s rescind all our franchise agreements and turn them all into corporate stores.”  They’ll be there for service and test drives, but you can just enter your order on GM’s website and the car shows up at your house a month or two later. Now all the dealer margins are helping corporate’s bottom line.

I doubt it would actually turn out that way, but I think they’re treating it as a “camel nose in the tent” problem.

What does it really mean, though? The law was an issue in Virginia when I bought mine, but I had no problem at all... Except that the car is darn expensive!
