I meant prices tend to get away.

 I remember looking at the Superamerica in a "boutique" dealership thinking "seriously?!" ... the funky roof was kind of impressive ... the whole car was/is impressive and my good friend (retired) was a factory trained Ferrari tech who raves about his time working the 575's with their (then) fast F1 shifts and the spine-tingling sound of the V12 reaching up to its redline.  It's one of the few F-cars I don't lament "missing out."  As ever, eventually, the "special" ones in undriven condition (what's the point?) will become unobtanium prices.  Me, I think I'm settling on a front engine two-seater because I can't quite come to grips with the 612 let alone the FF.  The 599 seems to be my pick of the line-up.  And the 430 Scuderia.  Put those two side by side and I think you have some marvelous machines for very different types of quintessential enthusiast driving -- just for the sake of the machine and the experience of it.  Where can I find a 599 three-pedal car?  If only they put a third pedal in the Scuderia ...

Nothing that is reliable from Ferrari is going to be collectible in my opinion

The F50 and all those limited editions runs will soak those who bought them dry

Just look at the Superamerica crowd (based on the 575) 

Couple hundreds cars made , new the car ran $250k plus

Go on any of the used car sites to include eBay 

They are running around $150k which means the dealer gave them $100k if that and they had to buy a car!

You could take the same criteria to buying a 911 or an E-type Jag or any number of desirables, but when it comes down to the wire, you either pay up now and buy a ridiculously slow, cantankerous, unloved and expensive to maintain F40 for a "ridiculous" $200K in 2000, or you rock your rocking chair on the front porch and see buyers paying $1M for the same car a decade later.  I assure you, I know.  I have the rocking chair.
