Sour grapes - mini-SPOILER

Sunday's race was incredible! I want the best cars fighting to win - and they did. In fact, the fights went in pairs, most all the way back the grid! If the two M-B cars had played team-orders and caravaned to the finish, as in earlier years, it would have turned off the fans. As it was, they were thrilled.

M-B just found more speed and in great chassis. We'll just have to wait and see what the lesser teams can do to catch up, if anything, but this is F1 and miracles happen in F1.

And as Steve Matchet said, "...6-1/2 miles per gallon..." exposes the whole environmentally friendly Formula 1 thing as silly. He went on to say, "...if you want to be really green, stop racing." A friend of mine calls it 'green washing' - the use of the word 'green' and silly proclamations to justify decidedly un-green things. We just have to admit that some things, things we enjoy, are not in the best interest of a clean planet. In a perfect world occupied by perfect beings, it would be easy. We'd all ride bicycles made from plants and everything would be clean and perfectly equal - no bullies, no win or loose, no government, no greed, no envy, no anything yucky.

And before someone flames me for being unsympathetic to the environment, let me clarify; I absolutely agree with the need to move to a lower environmental impact status on about every level. What boils me is the hypocrisy often associated with the smug moral high-ground. The quiet phrase, "Think globally, act locally." says it all. Do your part and leave others alone to do theirs. And if they don't, just recognize that they are rapidly becoming the minority. Far better than chastising them to make yourself feel better.

Now, let's see what the wizards in red can do to level this playing field a bit. They have three weeks to innovate and a strong, totally pissed off CEO to motivate them. Yes, the engines are specifications-bound but there are always little things to do that are just inside of the rules. And little things make all the difference with hardware so closely matched. Fingers crossed!
